Mr. Goels first investment at Norwest Venture Partners came in 2000, when he invested in Virtela Communications, which is now the worlds largest independently managed network, cloud services, and security company. Mr. Goel also invested in other start-ups that proved to be very successful, like KMV Technologies, Inc. KMV was a videoconferencing service that went on to become LifeSize Communications.
While helping to grow KMV Technologies, Mr. Goel sought out the best talent and employed top players in the telecom industry in order to give NVP a successful exit from KMV when it was sold to Logitech, in 2009, for $405 million. With a degree from George Mason University in electrical engineering, Vab Goel spent much of his early career providing network support for the telecom industry during the initial growing years of the internet. In fact, Mr. Goel was the principle architect of Sprints internet structure and was vital to organizing the companys overall IP and optical network strategies. Further, Mr. Goel pioneered efforts to create the worlds first IP over SONET and IP over DWDM networks.
He also provided Global One with large-scale IP development services, which at the time was a joint venture between Sprint, Deutsche Telekom, and France Telekom.
Continuing his career of pioneering new technologies, Mr. Goel served as Vice President of Emerging Technologies at Qwest Communications International, Inc., heading up the group responsible for seeking out new and promising technology companies in the tech sector. At NVP, Vab Goel serves on the board of Virtela, also working closely with Pontis, Apigee, Veveo, and others. He was previously an investor in C2C Pte.
